Overview
Chick-fil-A wanted to improve the mobile pickup experience by providing guests with real-time order updates—even when they’re not actively using the app. We designed a Live Activity feature for iOS that keeps users informed from kitchen to car, directly from their lock screen.
Problem Statement
Guests picking up mobile orders had to repeatedly open the app or wait without clarity. Chick-fil-A needed a lightweight, accessible way to surface order status updates and reduce uncertainty during curbside or drive-thru pickups.
Role & Responsibilities
As the UI Designer, I collaborated closely with the product designer, engineers, and the Chick-fil-A client team to:
- Design a visual system that’s clean, branded, and glanceable
- Optimize for small screen space and light/dark mode
- Ensure accessibility and platform consistency with Apple’s HIG
- Deliver pixel-perfect specs and assets for development
Design Process
🔍 Discovery
We looked at how other apps like Uber Eats and Starbucks use Live Activities. I also explored Apple’s official guidelines for Dynamic Island and Live Activities to understand best practices.
🔄 Flows & States
We designed multiple states:
Order Confirmed
Order in Progress
Ready for Pickup
Delivered / Completed
🎨 Visual Design
The final design used Chick-fil-A’s core brand colors and iconography in a simplified form. I carefully tested legibility across different lighting environments and device types.

Outcome & Impact
The feature successfully launched and is now live across iOS devices. Guests reported a smoother pickup experience, and internal teams noted fewer support tickets related to pickup confusion.
